At MyChoice Design Studio, our goal is to not only create you a home that is beautiful, but also highly functional, especially in those frequently used spaces like the kitchen.
Commonly referred to as the heart of the home, a brand-new kitchen should boast the latest in modern appliances and be aesthetically pleasing. But it’s the useability and functionality considered in this space that plays a crucial role when it comes to the overall design. Here are some key design features to consider for your kitchen design.
No longer just a kitchen
The kitchen is no longer just a space for cooking; it is a multifunctional hub for meal prep whilst conversations take place, homework gets done, and ultimately a space for the whole family to enjoy. It’s important to discuss with your MyChoice Design Studio interior design consultant how you wish to use this space, so we can take into consideration everything from storage solutions to appliance placement to ensure an efficient flow and ease of use.
Kitchen storage must-haves
Kitchen clutter is out, and rather paired back, mindful storage solutions are in! We recommend writing a list of everything you store in your kitchen, from food and pantry items through to cleaning supplies, ahead of your in-studio appointment. This will help us identify what storage spaces you require, i.e. cupboards, drawers or a combination, and the way you want them to be laid out.

The Work Triangle
The work triangle is a design principle that connects the sink, stove and refrigerator for an efficient kitchen layout. Keeping these three core elements within a few steps of one another creates greater cohesion and streamlines meal preparation.
However, with the modern kitchen becoming larger these spaces can be expanded and ultimately depends on the overall layout of your kitchen, such as island kitchen layout, galley style kitchen or U-shaped kitchen.

Integrated Appliances
Looking to create a seamless finish in your kitchen? We can discuss integrating your appliances including fridge, dishwasher and microwave into the cabinetry for a sleek look whilst still maintaining your desired kitchen layout.

Task Lighting
During your electrical appointment it’s important to consider the functionality of lighting in your kitchen. Whilst pendants and wall sconces are beautiful, they are often selected for accent lighting. We suggest a combination of options to support the overall ambient lighting in your kitchen to create a beautiful space that is still well-lit, including large pendants, multi-directional downlights, and under-bench LED strip lighting to reflect against your surfaces.
